Greater Manchester suffered torrential rain over new year, which caused a canal to burst for the first time in more than 50 years.
During the worst of the flooding, people were rescued from cars and properties and roads and train lines were closed. Emergency services declared a major incident as they dealt with the fall-out.
Bridgewater Canal, in Dunham Massey, gave way on one side, which left large amounts of water pouring into neighbouring fields.

The flooded area is located just a few hundred yards from the popular Swan with Two Nicks pub. Both the canal and the River Bollin are nearby.
The canal last burst in 1971 – when it was closed for two years for repairs which cost £250,000. Aerial pictures taken over the last few days show the huge scale of the flooding as a result of the burst.

The National Trust owned Dunham Massey park and gardens is a site of Special Scientific Interest, and home to a herd of fallow deer, as well as owls, bats, buzzards, woodpeckers, meadow ants and rare species of beetle. Over 225 different species call it home in 300 acres of parkland.
It comes after homes in Manchester, Stockport, Wigan and Bolton were evacuated due to flooding.
TransPennine Express issued a ‘do not travel’ warning throughout the north of England and Greater Manchester Police declared a major incident.
