Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister admitted his team didn’t deserve to take all three points against Manchester United after the 2-2 draw at Anfield in the Premier League.

“The result is not good enough,” he told Sky Sports post-match. “The performance was not as good as we wanted but at the end, it was a fair result. We didn’t play as we wanted, we conceded too many chances and had opportunities to score more goals, but that’s football.

“The effort was there, the mentality was there because we came back but when you’re winning 2-1 at 75 minutes you have to defend better and we couldn’t do it. We have to think about it and improve the things we did wrong and move on.

“It happened too often that we start to play in games where we are losing. That’s not what we want and that’s why I say it is something we have to think about. But it is football. The effort and the mentality was there.”

Asked if the feeling going into the match that Liverpool would win comfortably counted against the Reds, Mac Allister was insistent that there were no excuses. While some fans might have considered it, the players had no such thoughts.

“It doesn’t bother me,” Mac Allister continued. “That is the way football is and that is the way the show is. We don’t think about it; we just try to do our jobs and win games. It wasn’t our best game and that is why we didn’t win.”

Liverpool.com says: Mac Allister performed really well in the game but a few of his teammates, not least Trent Alexander-Arnold, were well below par. Liverpool is still in a great position in the Premier League table and hasn’t been caught up at all by Arsenal as the Gunners only drew this weekend too.
