Amad has admitted that “apologising is not enough” for Manchester United’s drab 2024, as the Ivorian reflected on a “very difficult year” at Old Trafford.
United have endured a difficult 12 months across all competitions, winning 25, drawing 12 and losing 16 of their 53 matches. Although winning the FA Cup is no doubt a highlight, finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, as well as making a dire start to this campaign, will no doubt go down as the major disappointment.
And after United ended the calendar year with their fourth successive defeat – a 2-0 loss at home against Newcastle – Amad took to social media to send a message to the disappointed United supporters.

He said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “a very difficult year, apologizing is not enough… but you have supported us and continued to do so throughout all this time… thank you…”
Although it has been a difficult 2024 for United, Amad has been one of the shining stars from a challenging period. The 22-year-old has stepped up in recent times, netting five goals and adding seven assists in 27 games this season. Amad notably scored and won a penalty during the win over Manchester City earlier this month.
His impressive performance against City came two weeks after Ruben Amorim credited Ruud van Nistelrooy for helping Amad during the Dutchman’s short time as interim head coach.
“He was really good again,” Amorim said of Amad after United’s 4-0 win at home to Everton. “He’s in a great moment, but that moment starts with Ruud. I just take advantage of Ruud’s work with Amad. He was really good defending and really good attacking, so he has to continue to play like that. You could feel at the end of the game that he was really, really tired, so we have also to manage that as he increases his physical ability.”
United are next in action when they travel to Liverpool in their first fixture of 2025. At the moment, it’s arguably the toughest fixture in world football and Amorim’s men will need to up their game to get a result.
