Best pictures as freezing temperatures leave frosty wonderland in Cumbria

Despite the recent freezing temperatures, talented local photographers have been out and about across North and West Cumbria snapping shots of our wonderful local landscapes including a shot of the rarely seen Northern Lights.

Temperatures plummeted on Thursday night and into Friday morning, with the mercury  dropping to a distinctly chilly -7.5C in Shap.

Amber warnings for snow and ice have been issued bringing “hazardous” travel conditions and drivers have been urged to be cautious when they are driving.

An amber Cold-Health alert has also been issued for the whole of England including Cumbria next and is in place until Thursday,  January 8 at noon.

The Weather health alerting system is provided by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) in partnership with the Met Office.

The warning is intended to provide early warning to the health and social care sector, the responder community, the voluntary and community sector and government departments when adverse temperatures are likely to impact on the health and well-being of the population.

But despite the chilly weather, many local photographers have been taking advantage of the atmospheric scenery which is created by the cold temperatures.

Here are some of the best shots as posted on the News and Star’s Camera Club Facebook page.
