Liverpool City Council’s Safety Advisory Group held a meeting this morning, but a final decision is yet to be taken on whether Sunday’s scheduled Premier League game between Liverpool and Manchester United will go ahead.
The Safety Advisory Group is set to reconvene at midday to reassess the situation, with the weather in the region forecast to improve in the next few hours.
A Liverpool statement said that the club is endeavoring to do everything possible to ensure the game goes ahead. The statement said: “A safety meeting was held this morning to assess the weather and travel conditions for today’s fixture against Manchester United at Anfield. At this stage the match is planned to go ahead as normal and every effort is being made to get the game on. A further safety meeting will take place again at midday to assess the latest conditions. We will update supporters just as soon as we can.”

Liverpool goes into the game in a rich vein of form, with the Reds having won their last three league games, scoring 14 goals in the process.
United, on the other hand, has lost its last four matches, conceding 11 goals across those games, and most Liverpool fans will be desperate for today’s game to go ahead so they can pile more misery on their old rivals.
If the match is called off, it will be the second time in just over a month that a Liverpool game has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions after last month’s Merseyside derby was also shelved.
