Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford is set to be included in the matchday squad for tonight’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old arrived at the stadium shortly before 4.30pm carrying a boot bag and listening to music. Players had started to arrive at Old Trafford at 4pm and he was one of the very last to make his way inside.

Rashford has been left out of the matchday squad for each of United’s last four matches, last featuring in the 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on December 12.

Earlier this month, the England international said he was “ready for a new challenge and the next steps” in an interview with journalist Henry Winter, suggesting he is keen to leave Old Trafford and test himself elsewhere. He has scored seven goals in 24 appearances for United this season.

Rashford was first omitted from the United squad for the Manchester derby victory over City on December 15 alongside fellow attacker Alejandro Garnacho. Head coach Ruben Amorim, ahead of the 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium, confirmed the duo had trained at Carrington on the morning of the game.

Garnacho was back in the squad for the 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup four days later, being named among the substitutes. He was also named on the bench for the recent defeats to both Bournemouth and Wolves, stepping off the bench on each occasion.

United are without Bruno Fernandes through suspension for tonight’s game, meaning a change will have to be made in attack. Garnacho could be handed his first start since being back into the fold, whereas Rashford might be named on the bench.
