Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Manchester United has been the subject of speculation in recent days. Atletico Madrid and Napoli have all been linked with the forward in January following news that United are open to selling him.

Garnacho has struggled to become a regular under Ruben Amorim and has found opportunities limited. Alongside Marcus Rashford, the Argentina international was dropped from the squad that beat Manchester City before Christmas.

He has since retained his spot in United’s squad but has mainly been used off the bench. Earlier this week, MEN Sport reported that the club had revoked the ‘untouchable’ status afforded to Garnacho – alongside Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Anre Onana.

It’s understood that Garnacho is now considered to be one of the players who could be sold due to not being suited to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system. He’s expected to stay at Old Trafford beyond the January transfer window but there remains doubt over his long-term future.

Napoli have been linked with a move to sign him to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia while a return to Spain has been touted. A fee of around £42million has been claimed to be enough to sanction a move away from Manchester.

However, despite the noise around his future, Garnacho was named in the starting XI in Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Arsenal. The 20-year-old endured a difficult first half but showed his class with a smart assist for Bruno Fernandes’ opener.

After celebrating in front of the travelling United fans, Fernandes showed his feelings towards Garnacho by pushing the forward to receive the plaudits from the away fans. The Argentine punched the air with a huge smile on his face before retreating back with the rest of his teammates.
