A computer shop in Carlisle is rewarding residents for recycling old technology.
Cache4 IT Solutions is running two schemes to benefit the environment and the local community.
The family-run computer shop is rewarding people for recycling their old items this month, and there will also be free advice for residents on setting up their new technology.
Paul Crooks, managing director of Cache4 IT Solutions, said: “The weeks after Christmas and the January sales are often the time when people’s drawers get full of old devices that no longer get used.
“Much of that will end up in landfill, leaking harmful chemicals.
“We’re running a ‘recycle your tech month’ in January to help people declutter and do their bit for the environment.”
Residents can drop off devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, and PC accessories at Cache4 throughout this month and regardless of condition, they will be ‘responsibly recycled.’
As ‘a little thank you for making a greener choice,’ participants will each receive a £5 store voucher.
With many people getting new tech over Christmas and in the sales, January is the perfect time to declutter, rather than letting old gadgets ‘gather dust.’
Cache4 is also offering free tech drop-in sessions every Saturday in January.
Mr Crooks said: “Tech can be overwhelming, especially for those not as familiar with it.
“We want to take away the stress and help people get the most out of their Christmas gifts too, whether it’s a smartphone, tablet, or laptop.”
Residents can visit the shop to receive one-to-one support for setting up or learning how to use their devices.
All gadgets are welcome, and the sessions aim to help everyone ‘feel more confident with their tech.’
Mr Crooks said: “We’re proud to kick off 2025 with initiatives that support our community and the environment.
“It’s what we’re all about as a small family business.”
The Cache4 shop is open from Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5pm, and 9am to 2pm on Saturday in Lowry Hill, Carlisle.
No appointment is necessary for the January recycling or tech set-up schemes.
