Christmas sleigh raises more than £5K for rotary club

The Westhoughton Rotary Club’s Christmas sleigh raised £5,400.

The annual event, featuring Father Christmas and his elves, was “warmly welcomed” by the community as they toured the streets in December.

The funds will be used to support borough charities and community projects throughout the year.

Despite some wet and windy weather early in the month, the team was ‘thrilled’ with the response.

John Oakes, Westhoughton Rotary president, said: “The entire Rotary Club of Westhoughton looks forward to getting out and about with the sleigh to meet and greet local people.

“It doesn’t happen without a lot of hard work behind the scenes, though, and I’d like to thank the Rotarians who put in so much effort beforehand and our volunteers who come out with us night after night.”

He also expressed gratitude to James Booth (Bolton) Ltd and Bolton Kia for their support.

Mr Oakes said: “Last but definitely not least, I would like to express my gratitude to the people of Westhoughton for coming out to greet us and giving so generously.

“Everything raised will be used to benefit the local community.

“Finally, may I take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and successful 2025.”

The event is a continued highlight for many families, with some saying it ‘marks the start of their festive season.’
