Erling Haaland has targeted Alan Shearer’s record of all-time Premier League goals and he wants to create a legacy at Manchester City after signing a stunning nine-year contract extension which will keep him at the Etihad until he is 33.
Having signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for £51m, Haaland smashed dozens of records en-route to a treble in his first season, and followed up up with a second Premier League title last term. This season his goalscoring form has continued, scoring 111 goals in total for City in just 126 appearances. His 15 assists takes his overall goal involvement ratio to one per game.
Haaland arrived with intense speculation that he could still explore a move to Real Madrid in the future and his camp have never played down those suggestions. Now, though, that opportunity is set to be closed, with a new ten year contract said to remove all exit clauses in Haaland’s initial contract that was set to expire in 2027.

The striker could now make Premier League history with Shearer’s record of 260 goals in the competition firmly achievable. Haaland still has some way to go from his current position of 79 Premier League goals, but he now has nine more years to catch Shearer having won back-to-back Golden Boots including the record for most goals in a single season in his debut campaign.
260 is also the figure for Haaland to equal Sergio Aguero as City’s all-time scorer, with the Norwegian already closing in on the half-way mark of that total.
“I am going to stay for a long time,” he said. “Now I can fully focus on getting better because I am going to stay here for such a long time. Full focus on performing and getting better to give all of the fans what they want.
“To score the most goals ever in a Premier League season is special and I will do everything I can to try and get close to the record in the future. It is not going to be easy, but it was a special thing and I am really happy that I did it.”
“Now I am City no matter what. I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.”
