Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes Mohamed Salah will stay at Anfield, despite the winger admitting he is still some way off signing a new contract.
Salah is of course one of three big-name Liverpool players set to be out of contract at the end of the season, along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. All three will soon be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs should they wish to do so, with January just a couple of days away now.
All three have been offered new deals to stay on Merseyside, although as yet none of them have made a final decision on their futures. Recent reports had suggested that Salah had agreed a new three-year contract to keep him at the club until 2028.

The Egyptian though dismissed those claims when he spoke after Liverpool’s win over West Ham on Sunday.
“No, we’re far away from that (giving some good news on his future),” Salah told Sky Sports. “I don’t want to put something in the media and people start saying stuff, but nothing has moved and now we’re focused on the team.”
Murphy, however, is optimistic about Salah’s chances of staying at Anfield. Addressing Salah’s comments, the former midfielder told the BBC’s Match of the Day: “I hope it is a little bit of game play in terms of negotiations.
“Every supporter wants him to stay and I have a really good feeling that he will stay. These things can take a bit of time when there is money involved. But he is Liverpool’s most important player at the moment and he needs to be signed up.”

Salah was on fire once again as he helped Liverpool to a 5-0 win over West Ham, which took the Reds eight points clear at the top of the Premier League ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal’s fixtures this week.
The 32-year-old scored and added two assists to take his impressive tally this season to 37 goal involvements across all competitions. Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota were also on target as the Reds strengthened their title hopes heading into 2025.
“They have got more players than anyone else who are prepared to run in behind without the ball,” Murphy said of Liverpool. “They do it with such dynamism, it is incredible. It is clearly a tactic, there is a real willingness from the players and that takes energy and commitment. We see so many players only wanting the ball to feet.
“A lot of teams have one or two players who do it but Liverpool has four or five. It is almost impossible to defend against when they play like that.”
