A person is feared dead and dozens have been injured following a tram crash in France.
Two trams collided at the Gare Centrale station in Strasbourg, in the east of the country near the German border. Local reports suggest one of the tram drivers was killed in the tragedy, with estimates claiming about 30 people were injured.
However these figures have not yet been confirmed, the Mirror reports. Videos shared on X show the aftermath of the coming together of the vehicles this afternoon. Amid chaotic scenes, smoke can be seen billowing from the tunnel and blaring alarms can be heard at the busy station where some people are laid on the ground with injuries suffered in the collision. Another video posted on X showed severe damage to the front and rear of the two trams involved in this afternoon’s accident.

The accident is is believed to have been caused when one of the trams was put onto a track where another was idle in the major station in a switching error. An investigation is set to be launched to discover what happened at the busy station.
One witness said: “I just saw what happened in Strasbourg. It’s very serious, an accident between two trams, there would be five serious injuries and 30 minor injuries. We sincerely hope there is no death.”

Emmanuel Fernandes, from La France Insoumise, added on X: “Great concern over the images of the collision between two trams in the Strasbourg station. Support for the victims (several dozen injured are reported), for the emergency services, for the police and officers as well as for the users.”
