Erling Haaland’s favourite butty shop makes hungry customer ‘biggest sandwich ever’ for whopping £25.20

An Ancoats sandwich shop, beloved among Manchester City players, claims to have served up the “biggest sandwich ever”.

Ad Maiora has become renowned for its huge artisan butties, which have won it a huge following across the city. Their wares have been devoured by City stars Mateo Kovacic, Phil Foden and Erling Haaland – the latter of whom even has a sandwich named after him.

Daniela Steri and Enrico Pinn, the Sardinian couple who run the sandwich shop, were left stunned this morning (Sunday) when a hungry customer placed a mammoth breakfast order.

Not content with a regular ‘Haaland’s’, they requested extra fillings. Priced at more than £25 and weighing over 800g, the huge sandwich contained prosciutto cotto, Parma ham, Fior di Latte mozarella, burrata cheese, sundried tomatoes, homemade pesto, red onions, crumbled pistachios, truffle oil and rocket.

In a post on its Instagram page today, Ad Maiora hailed its creation as the “biggest sandwich ever”. Daniela and Enrico, who started their business out of their flat in Manchester’s Northern Quarter several years ago, said they “couldn’t believe their eyes” upon receiving the order via Deliveroo.

“We couldn’t believe someone could eat that whole sandwich,” Daniela said. “It was so massive that we struggled to fit it into the bag.

“We’re pretty sure our customer, who placed the order at 10 in the morning, had a very satisfying breakfast!”

Sharing a series of pictures of the giant sandwich on the Ad Maiora Instagram page earlier today, the sandwich pros said: “£25.20 BIGGEST SANDWICH EVER. Someone woke up a little hungry today!

“What better way to kick off your Sunday than with our Haaland sandwich packed with a lot of extras? Scroll to the end to check out the weight! What a BEAST.”

Daniela and Enrico both quit their jobs at the end of 2022 to start selling freshly-baked schiacciata sandwiches stuffed with authentic Italian ingredients. They quickly amassed a huge following across Manchester and took social media by storm with their mammoth double decker sandwich ‘The Beast’.

As well as its home on Radium Street in Ancoats, Ad Maiora also has a site inside the Salford Quays’ food hall, Kargo Mkt. After beating Manchester United in the derby last March, Manchester’s City’s stars tucked into the shop’s massive sandwiches.

Striker Erling Haaland posed for a picture with Ad Maiora’s delighted owner Enrico and asked for three focaccia to take away from the event at City following the match. In November, Daniela and Enrico were invited back to feed the City squad following a hectic run of games for Pep Guardiola’s men.
