Families across Cumbria welcome special babies born on New Year’s Day

Families from across Cumbria have been celebrating the new year with an added spring in their step after New Year’s Day coincided with the birth of a new child.

Four babies were born on New Year’s Day across North and West Cumbria at North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) hospitals.

Three babies were born at the West Cumberland Hospital and one was born at the Cumberland Infirmary.

Oban Robert Kirkbride was 6lb 12oz and born at 11:45pm in West Cumberland Hospital.

Bailey Wilson (Image: NCIC)Other families welcomed their new born babies on Christmas Day with one Cumbrian family saying their baby girl is ‘the best present’ they have ever had.

Elvie June Cunningham was born weighing 5lb 6oz at 7.15am in the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.

She joins the Cunningham family, from Frizington, with mum and dad Nicola and Bryan as well big brother Clayton and big sister Brie who are all adoring of their newest addition.

Nicola said: “We are over the moon with her. She’s the best Christmas present we have ever had besotted is an understatement.”

Elvie was the second Christmas day baby in the county with the Tanzarella family welcoming Isabella Joy Tanzarella born weighing 7.5 pounds at 1:57am on Christmas Day at the Cumberland Infirmary.

Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are two of the rarest birthdays according to an online study in the Daily Mail.
