Farm milking their way forward ahead of shop opening

A FARM outside Carlisle is one step closer to achieving its dream of running a farm shop.

Newtown Farm in Blackford has introduced milk vending machines on-site, offering fresh dairy products.

The machines are open daily from 7am to 8pm, providing fresh milk and milkshakes from the farm’s own dairy cows.

This initiative is part of the farm’s plan to establish a farm shop, which was approved in August last year.

The vending machines currently offer six flavours: chocolate, white chocolate, strawberry, banana, salted caramel, and Irish cream, with more flavours to be added soon.

Emily Tinning, who has been running Em’s Cakes and Bakes at the farm, said: “All of our milk is fresh from our own dairy cows on the farm.

“The milk is also pasteurised on farm so it comes direct from the cows, into the pasteuriser and then into the vending machine.

“The milk is also non-homogenised so it still has all the good stuff.”

The vending machines also carries Emily’s cakes and fresh local eggs.

“The cakes are now in the vending machine alongside the milk and milkshakes so they are now available on a more regular basis,” Ms Tinning said.

The farm also introduced beef and lamb boxes before Christmas, which were very popular.

Ms Tinning said: “We sold out in no time and have a waiting list for our next lot of beef boxes which will be in January.

“To be able to have a shop selling homemade cakes and local produce has always been a dream of my husband and I so we can’t wait to get going with the farm shop.

“These are our first steps of our farm shop offering which we will be continuing to expand into 2025.”

Other items such as locally produced bread and locally sourced vegetables will also be stocked in the shop, building upon the popular sweet treats and milkshakes offering.
