Film stars and Netflix crews descend on Burnley for world premiere of Bank of Dave 2

Netflix crews and star-studded guests are descending on Burnley today, for the world premiere of Bank of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger.

The red carpet was rolled out early this morning at the new Reel Cinema, at Burnley’s Pioneer Place, for the premiere.

James Bond actor Kinnear played MI6 chief of staff Bill Tanner in Quantum Of Solace in 2008 and last in 2021’s No Time To Die.

Fishwick held a similar event at the premiere for the first film in 2023. Today, he turned up wearing wellies and armed with a shovel as Burnley was blanketed in snow.

The original Bank of Dave film, which tells the (almost true) story of how the Burnley native took on the big banks and won, was number one on Netflix’s most streamed movies for a short time after it first appeared on the platform in 2023.

The sequel sees Dave and ‘right hand man’ David Henshaw take on the payday loan companies as they embark on a journey that will eventually take them to the United States and help bring down an entire industry of predatory corporations.

(Image: Sarah McGee) Speaking about the real-life experience that inspired the film, Dave said: “David H. and I decided to go after [the lenders]. I’d met people who’d tried to run away from home because of the terrible things that were happening to them through the payday loan industry.

“David H. and I decided to get in touch with these people [who were writing us letters] as we could probably give them a loan that’s much cheaper, and then I’d pay this loan back to the payday loan companies.

“People were bursting into tears. It was really emotional. So I set off to London to find these payday loan companies. I’m banging on doors. Some of them are just cupboards with a telephone number. They were hiding. They actually would not take the money back. They prey on the poor and vulnerable, and the movie catches that brilliantly.”

Bank of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger will premiere on Netflix on January 10.
