Bolton firefighters are currently in attendance following a ‘major incident’ last night in Platt Bridge.
The incident is believed to be in relation to flooding due to recent heavy rain, with residents reportedly “unable to access their homes” as a result of the weather.
Bolton firefighters received reports of the incident at around 7pm last night and are still on the scene pumping water out of flooded areas and making sure people can get back into their homes.
A spokesperson for Bolton Central Fire Station said: “Both crews were in attendance following a major incident on Platt Bridge in Wigan, which was reported at around 7pm last night.
“The incident is in relation to flooding and crews are still on the scene.”
A spokesperson for Atherton Fire Station said: “The incident has been going on over night, with crews still on the scene pumping water out of the flooded areas.
“Crews are currently monitoring the scene and making sure that people can get back into their houses, as right now no one is able to access their homes.
“We aren’t sure whether it’s the heavy rainfall or broken pumps, or a combination of both of these that has caused the incident.”
