Greater Manchester weekend forecast after days of weather warnings

It has been a chilly week in Greater Manchester. Sub-zero temperatures were seen across the region as we saw our first snowfall of 2025.

Weather warnings were in place for much of the week with roads and public transport plunged into chaos after ice and snow. Manchester Airport was forced to shut its runways for over an hour on Thursday morning, and iced-up buttons on pedestrian crossings caused tailbacks in Rochdale and Oldham.

While many will have enjoyed the picturesque snow and wintry scenes, there will be some pleased to know that temperatures are set to inch up the thermometer again this weekend.

There are currently no weather warnings in place for Greater Manchester on Saturday (January 11) and Sunday (January 12), and while temperatures will remain cold, it is likely to be milder than over the week.

Saturday is forecast for a sunny start, although this is likely to change to cloud by the afternoon and bring patchy rain and sleet. It will remain cold, with highs of 2C dropping to -2C overnight.

There is also likely to be some freezing fog in places, although this is set to clear for most.

Sunday is forecast to be slightly warmer, with highs of 5C. According to the Met Office, the day will start cloudy but clear to sunny intervals by the late morning.

The forecast for the week ahead is significantly milder, although we can expect a return to rain. The Met Office said: “Windier on Monday with spells of rain, possibly heavy across Cumbria. Breezy on Tuesday and Wednesday with rain or drizzle at times, but lengthy dry periods too. Turning much milder.”
