Pep Guardiola is not willing to say that Kyle Walker has played his last game for Manchester City.

The club captain has asked to leave this month after a difficult season on and off the pitch, and City are open to selling the defender for the right price. Walker was left out of the matchday squad to face Salford City on Saturday after the manager said he was not in the right state to take part in the game.

There is no let-up in the schedule and City have three crunch away games in the next ten days that will go a long way to determining how much improvement there has been in the team since their slump. They face Brentford away and Ipswich away in the Premier League before heading to Paris for a match that they must win if they want to get their Champions League hopes back on track and avoid an early exit from the competition.

Asked if Walker would be selected going forwards, Guardiola could not give a certain answer. While he indicated that the defender could be sidelined while his future is up in the air, the coach did suggest that the player could force his way back in with his efforts in training.

“I don’t know. It depends on how we are going to train. I don’t know,” he said. “It depends on him. The situation is different now but the transfer window will finish when it finishes and I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
