‘It’s not offensive is it?’ Peter Kay startles Netflix bosses with Northern phrase

Bolton comedian Peter Kay left US Netflix bosses bamboozled after ad-libbing a common northern phrase during production of a Christmas favourite.

Kay, 51, starred in Christmas Day’s Wallace and Gromit: Vengence Most Fowl as Chief Inspector Mackintosh – his first TV role in four years.

The TV film was the first time the inventing stop-motion duo had seen a feature-length production since 2008’s A Matter Of Loaf and Death.

Racking in nine million viewers on Christmas Day, the flick was a hit and will be streamed internationally on Netflix next week.

Vengence Most Fowl also features Bolton’s Dianne Morgan as TV reporter Onya Doorstep, and Lauren Patel, also from Bolton, as PC Mukherjee.

The film’s strong Bolton ties are more evident when the phrase “flippin’ nora” is said by Kay’s character when reacting in astonishment.

Fearing an outcry, Netflix bosses reportedly left a note saying “Who is Nora and why is she being flipped?”

Thankfully, it was explained that the phrase has no malice and is simply a harmless expression.

The film’s plot centred around the revenge of Feathers McGraw, who wreaked havoc in previous film, The Wrong Trousers, and returns to frame Wallace as a criminal guilty of “theft by gnome”.
