Fans of Emmerdale believe they’ve worked out the exit of one character after tonight’s (Wednesday, January 15) episode. Wendy will be leaving the soap soon as confirmed by ITV.
Susan Cookson first joined the soap joined the show in 2019 taking on the role of Wendy Posner. Her character has faced a lot of criticism, with her first showing up in the Dales to get answers from Victoria Sugden who was pregnant with her grandchild.
It was Wendy’s eldest son Lee who raped Victoria in a “harrowing twist” on the show. Since then, Wendy settled in the Dales full-time after beginning a relationship with Bob Hope. Amidst reports of budget cuts, fans of Emmerdale have already bid farewell to Dean Andrews (who played Will Taylor) and Daisy Campbell (who played Amelia Spencer) who left the village within the last few weeks.

In recent episodes, viewers found out that it was Wendy who had leaked Rhona’s personal life to the press amid the drama of April missing. In a twist, we watched on as a journalist from the Hotton Courier blackmailed Wendy into sharing more information about Ella Forster who served time in prison for killing her friend at 11 years old.
The journalist provoked Wendy to spill all of the details, or she’d expose Wendy for concealing criminal convictions during her application to become a nurse, meaning she isn’t actually qualified for the role. Tonight’s episode saw that the paper had printed Ella’s story on the front page, and Wendy looked visibly uncomfortable as Ella thanked her for all her support.
Fans of the show think this storyline will be the reason that Wendy leaves the Dales. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), @adjalf1 wrote: “So this is how Wendy is leaving then. She is telling the newspapers about everyone’s past. She will be excluded.”
@Surfingspaniel added: “So fake nurse Wendy has spilt the beans. This has all the makings of a how to get rid of someone quick storyline.” @aintnocoleslaw continued: “Hopefully this is how Wendy leaves the village.”
After Susan filmed her final scenes, a source told The Sun: “She’s really well liked in the cast but unfortunately budget cuts mean hard decisions need to be made and that resulted in Susan being one of a number of cast leaving,
“ITV is going through a cash crisis with the soaps and the money just isn’t there to pay for everyone any more.”
