ITV Emmerdale fans say ‘feel quite sick’ amid plea to ‘get rid’ of character

Emmerdale has certainly started off strong with the drama levels in 2025, with the soap juggling multiple dark storylines at once. Fans took to social media tonight (Friday January 10) to complain about Anthony Fox.

Anthony Fox joined the Dales in 2024 and was introduced as Ruby Fox-Milligan’s estranged father. He arrived in the village with Ruby’s daughter Steph, and the pair announced they would be staying for the foreseeable.

Fans of the ITV soap were left watching in horror as a flashback scene in one episode highlighted that Ruby had been subjected to abuse from her father when she was a teenager.

Unbeknownst to her family, Ruby begins to struggle with the memories resurfacing, but her problems began to escalate once she revealed to Chas that Steph might not be Caleb’s daughter. Fans have since speculated that Anthony is the biological father of his “granddaughter”.

In tonight’s episode, Arthur was struggling to complete his college homework in the café, much to the dismay of his mother Laurel who couldn’t help him. Overhearing their conversation, Anthony offered his services to help tutor Arthur.

The latter showed his appreciation and admitted how much help Anthony had been with his workload. This comes after Ruby is secretly dealing with the past, and Emmerdale teased that future episodes will show Ruby receiving results from a DNA test – but will their secrets be exposed?

Fans took to social media to complain about Anthony’s character. On X (formerly known as Twitter), @RyanTheSoapking wrote: “Really worried about Arthur in tonight’s episode. I’m becoming more convinced that Anthony is involved in April’s disappearance. Need Ruby to warn Arthur away from Anthony.”

@spartacus2963 added: “There’s a limit to how much someone can make your skin crawl but Anthony surpasses it every time he appears in a scene…” @GrantTheHatter echoed: “writers seemingly going down a very dark path.”

@ShakyWoon warned: “Laurel and Arthur steer clear of Anthony.” @Margare16040532 continued: “They need to get rid of this Anthony guy – I feel quite sick watching him.” Nicola also spots Anthony helping out Arthur, with some viewers worried she’ll sign daughter Angel up for tutoring as well.

Emmerdale is on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and available to stream on ITVX.
