ITV Emmerdale star confirms character ‘absolutely wants to kill’ in death whodunit

An Emmerdale star has confirmed that their character is ‘apoplectic with rage’ in upcoming scenes as the past comes to light. Next week, Anthony Fox will be found dead, while the mystery killer could be any of his enemies.

It’s been quite the emotional rollercoaster for residents in the Dales over the last few weeks, particularly for Ruby Fox-Miligan who has struggled with the memories of her father abusing her when she was a teenager resurfacing. Viewers watched as her estranged father Anthony chose to stay in the village, but it wasn’t until the ITV soap aired flashbacks that fans realised why Ruby was desperate for him to leave.

While Ruby’s loved ones have been none the wiser when it comes to Anthony’s abuse, Ruby opened up to Chas that Caleb might not be Steph’s biological father. As viewers fill in the gaps that Anthony could be, recent episodes showed that Ruby has requested a DNA test.

However, upcoming scenes show that Ruby decides she doesn’t want the answer, but it’s too late as Caleb has found the envelope and demands answers from his wife. Actor William Ash shared: “Caleb finds the DNA test that Ruby has done and finds out Caleb is not Steph’s father. He is scrabbling about to think who could be Steph’s father from that period of time when they were 16/17.”

He continued: “He figures it could be this guy called Rob who Ruby was really close to growing up. He’s the only one, Caleb didn’t particularly like him, he was a bit nerdy and geeky always hanging around Ruby. What happens is: he has a conversation with Chas who confirms it was probably this Rob who is Steph’s father.”

As Caleb goes to confront Rob, the latter informs him that he’s gay and was just really good friends with Ruby. Meanwhile, Chas puts two and two together and realises Anthony must be the father. William revealed: “Chas is the one who tells Caleb that Anthony abused Ruby. It comes as a massive shock.”

Caleb speaks to Ruby about his theory, and when she confirms it is Anthony he “absolutely wants to kill Anthony. He just wants vengeance and is desperate to go after him.” Although Ruby pleads with Caleb not to, “Caleb is going to pursue him to get some kind of justice, as messed up as it is, for Ruby.”

Now that he’s furious with Anthony and seeking vengeance, the soap star admitted that Caleb “is in possession of a gun” that gets delivered to him, and Emmerdale has shared that a gunshot goes off just before Anthony’s body is found. While there are still other suspects at large, this doesn’t look great for Caleb.

William Ash states that although is character isn’t initially capable of killing Anthony, “he doesn’t accept responsibility for what he’s done and is so casual about it and almost blames Ruby for the abuse, I think that makes Caleb so angry. I don’t think he is capable initially but when he’s confronted with Anthony’s indifference to what he’s done it sends Caleb into a tailspin and a rage.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and available to stream on ITVX.
