Emmerdale hasn’t shied away from the drama in the last few weeks, with some harrowing storylines being at the centre of recent episodes. When Anthony Fox is found dead next week, the murderer remains a mystery as life changes for a key family in the village.
As viewers learnt of Ruby’s abusive past at the hands of her father Anthony, the ITV soap has started to tackle who Steph’s real father could be. Is it Ruby’s husband Caleb, or her estranged father Anthony? Ruby herself doesn’t want to know the answer as she tries to get rid of the DNA test before reading it due to fearing the worst.
It becomes even more of a turbulent time for Ruby as Caleb finds the DNA test and demands to get answers when he realises he is not the father. However, Caleb ends up blaming her old friend Rob, and actor William Ash shared: “Caleb gets in touch with Rob over Facebook and asks him for some work to be done at the depot.

“Rob runs this IT firm, under the pretence of getting Rob round to confront him. Also, Chas has told Caleb that it’s implied Rob might have forced himself on Ruby. Caleb is apoplectic with rage about this, absolutely furious.”
Rob reveals to Caleb that he’s gay and Ruby is nothing more than a close friend that spent a lot of time with him growing up. Caleb initially accuses Ruby of cheating on him, and can’t figure out who Steph’s real father would be.

It isn’t long before Chas puts two and two together, and decides to tell Caleb that Anthony had abused Ruby. Furious with this news, William Ash admitted: “He just wants vengeance and is desperate to go after him. Initially Ruby tells him not to, then you find out Caleb is going to pursue him to get some kind of justice, as messed up as it is, for Ruby.”
Viewers will watch as Caleb gets a gun delivered to him, and he orders Anthony to get in his car as he takes him to a barn ready to confront him. This is shortly after Aaron Dingle witnesses an unguarded interaction between Ruby and Anthony that leaves him feeling unsettled.
Things get more intense as in upcoming scenes Anthony will try to place all the blame on Ruby, refusing to take accountability for what he’s done. William commented: “I think that makes Caleb so angry. I don’t think he is capable initially but when he’s confronted with Anthony’s indifference to what he’s done it sends Caleb into a tailspin and a rage.”
If Caleb is revealed to be Anthony’s killer, William confirms that this will have a huge impact on the family. He explained: “The impact on the family would be devastating because of the relationship with Steph, and trying to amend after all those years.
“Also it would be even worse for Ruby, she has held onto this awful secret for all these years having been abused. It would make things a thousand times worse for them as a family, Ruby probably would blame herself, It would blow the family apart.”
Emmerdale is on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and available to stream on ITVX.
