Comedian Jason Manford said his holiday plans had been ‘scuppered’ by bad weather has he was left sat on the Manchester Airport tarmac for hours.
The Salford comic took to Facebook to post a disgruntled selfie – one of hundreds battling delays at the region’s airport due to heavy snowfall.
Freezing temperatures forced the airport to grind to a halt first thing on Thursday morning (January 9) as ‘significant’ snowfall caused travel chaos across the region. Runways have since reopened, but passengers have been warned to expect delays.

Posting the selfie, Manford wrote: “Padel holiday with 15 pals being scuppered by the bad weather at Manchester airport! Still sat on the runway for this 9.30am flight.”

Plenty of people took to the comments with messages of support. Sarah Finch wrote: “Feel your pain. Went from Manchester on Monday, 4+hours on the tarmac. Worth it now though, blue skies and sunshine. Hope you set off soon xxx.”
Candice Michelle Flynn wrote: “Stay strong Jason I’m sure it won’t be long until you’re up in the air and away, enjoy your holiday when you get there…… xx.”
In a post on X, Manchester Airport said: “Our runways are now open but, as a result of the earlier closure, some departures and arrivals may still experience delays.
“Please check with your airline for the latest flight information and allow extra time for your journey today. We would like to thank our teams for their hard work in getting the runways operational again.
“The safety of our passengers remains our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and your patience.”
