The news of Liverpool’s apparent interest in Khvicha Kvaratkskhelia came as something of a surprise eatlier this week.

Georgia international Kvaratskhelia has emerged as one of the best young wingers in the world in recent years, most notably playing a key role in Napoli’s first Scudetto win for 33 years two seasons ago.

However, the lack of movement over a new contract in Naples has seemingly alerted the a host of top clubs, with Liverpool being one of them.

Kvaratskhelia is still on the same terms that he signed upon joining Napoli from Georgian club Dinamo Batumi in 2022, and is understandably keen to see his salary increase significantly.

Liverpool would apparently have to make room for Kvaratskhelia in the squad by offloading a least one player, and Federico Chiesa is reportedly attracting interest from Napoli, which opens up the possibility of some kind of swap deal.

Should Kvaratskhelia arrive on Merseyside, he could continue to wear the No.77 jersey that he currently wears for Napoli. Unsurprisingly, that number is not currently taken by anybody in the Reds’ first-team squad.

Arne Slot was unwilling to entertain transfer speculation during his press conference ahead of today’s FA Cup game against Accrington Stanley.

Asked what he made of Liverpool’s links with Kvaratskhelia, Slot responded: “What I make of that, is that it’s January. I said after the West Ham game, don’t disappoint me, please come up with all these clubs and all these players who we are interested in! 99 per cent of times at the end of the window, it ends up that all of these stories aren’t true. The rumors keep coming, but no comment from my side.”
