A large crane has been reassembled on the site of the new Caldew Crossing as part of work on the Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR).
The CSLR will connect Junction 42 of the M6 with the A595 to the west. The route will include new junctions linking existing radial routes into Carlisle and the proposed Garden Village.
The route will include bridges over two main railway lines and the Caldew and Petteril rivers, a network of footways and cycleways and an extensive programme of landscaping and environmental mitigation.
Preparation continues for lifting the remaining large beams onto the Caldew Crossing over the next few weeks.
Two of the new shared use foot and cycle bridges are being installed at the Newby West roundabout and the new Cummersdale roundabout.

These new structures combined with the new shared use path that is being constructed along the entire route will provide traffic free access along the route of the CSLR connecting Cummersdale and Durdar.
There has also been a small change in the route alignment on the A595 on the approach to the Newby West roundabout.
This to facilitate the building of the new culvert that is being installed under the A595 for Fairy Beck and to prepare for the work needed to do to create the new Newby West Roundabout.
