Liverpool without just one player vs Man Utd as Arne Slot faces three major dilemmas

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has some interesting dilemmas to solve ahead of facing Manchester United this weekend with only one Reds player set to be unavailable through injury.

Dominik Szoboszlai has served his one-match suspension and defensive duo Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley have both returned to the fold, meaning Joe Gomez is the only player sidelined. Every other Liverpool player is available to be picked from the start or off the bench at Anfield on Sunday.

For Slot, that gives him the nice headache of needing to make some selection calls. Konate, for example, could go straight back into the team but Jarell Quansah is also an option if the Frenchman needs a bit more time to work himself back to full fitness.

In midfield, Szoboszlai could replace Curtis Jones but the Liverpool academy graduate is playing well at the moment. Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch are likely to be assured of their spots.

And in attack, Slot has the option of going with Diogo Jota as the number nine should he wish. The Portugal striker is still waiting for his first start since coming back from injury.

But with Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz in good form, Liverpool could go with the Colombian centrally once again, which is a tactic that has worked several times lately. Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa are also options but they are likelier to be named on the bench.

“For me, I said it before the first fixture and I can say it one more time: they have much better players, in my opinion, than maybe the league table shows at the moment,” Slot said during his pre-match press conference.

“It’s maybe going to take a while for Ruben Amorim to bring this out of the players. But they will definitely go up and they are much, much, much better than the league shows at the moment.”
