Loose Women’s Denise Welch rips into son Matty Healy’s ‘rubbish’ claims about life

Denise Welch has brutally shut down her rock star son Matt Healy after he shared some details about his life.

The Loose Women star described his tales as “absolute b******s” in a recent podcast.

She explained how Matty – star of The 1975 – downplayed his privileged upbringing, saying: “He told this story about how he slaved away laboriously working at Caffé Nero so that he could buy his first guitar. Absolute b******s!

Denise had told Matty that she was happy to support him as he pursued his rock and roll dream, but insisted that he got himself a job as well. He managed to do just that, getting himself a job at the popular national coffee chain.

She told the My Favourite Takeaway podcast: “He came back after a week and told me that he was going to get a certificate as the best trainee barista they’d ever had. I was as proud as if he’d said ‘barrister.’

“I was incredibly proud. It turned out – and I didn’t know until a significant amount of time later – that he had actually been fired after a week for being the worst trainee barista they’d ever had.”

She said the talented songwriter had still continued to leave their house in Wilmslow, Cheshire, for almost a month – wearing his Caffé Nero t-shirt so his parents didn’t catch on.

Matty and his songwriting partner George Daniel, the 1975’s drummer, also picked up some work delivering takeaways for their local Chinese restaurant. Denise joked that if it was just her and Matty’s dad – her ex-husband Tim Healy – ordering in, the food would often take quite a while.

If Matty was at home too, the takeaway would turn up almost instantly. Nevertheless, she said, Matty and George would always get a very generous tip when they did turn up.

Denise poked more fun at Matty’s story of his life as a struggling musician, saying: “It was almost like he was kicking a tin can down the back roads in some kind of, really dark, depressing place when he actually lived in a lovely house with his parents, who were tipping him all the time and buying food for him and his friends. But nevertheless this is obviously the Liam Gallagher version of life that he’s chosen to project.”
