Man rescued by fire crews after major five car crash

A man was rescued from his vehicle by fire crews after a major five-car crash in Wigan on Thursday morning (January 2).

Police, paramedics and the fire service were called to Mort Lane in Tyldesley shortly before 8am. The crash involved five different vehicles.

The road was closed off, with one man rescued from his car by emergency services. All those involved were checked over at the scene by paramedics. No serious injuries were reported.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 8am on Thursday 2 January, fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Mort Lane, Tyldesley.

“The incident involved five vehicles. One man had to be assisted from his car by fire crews. Firefighters and colleagues from North West Ambulance Service checked five people at the scene, but none required further treatment.

“Firefighters then used specialist equipment to make the area safe before handing the scene over to Greater Manchester Police. GMFRS crews attended the incident for about an hour.”
