Manchester United’s Premier League game against Liverpool will go ahead as planned this afternoon (Sunday), despite concerns that snowfall could cause a postponement.
United go into the game looking to end their run of poor form. Ruben Amorim’s side fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Newcastle United in their last outing on Monday night, it was their fourth defeat in a row in all competitions.
The result leaves United in 14th place in the Premier League table, with questions now being asked as to if they’re in a relegation fight. United take on a Liverpool side flying high at the top of the Premier League.

But there was doubt over the game on Sunday morning. An amber weather warning for now and ice had been issued from 6pm on Saturday night to midday on Sunday with Liverpool impacted by snowfall in the early hours of Sunday morning.
That caused the City’s Council Grounds Safety Advisory Group to call two meetings where they discussed if the game should go ahead. The group took into consideration the safety of the fans making their way to the stadium for the match.
It has now however been confirmed that the game will go ahead as originally planned. Kick-off is scheduled for 4.30pm.
Earlier in the day, both United and Liverpool released statements giving an update to fans. “Our match against Liverpool is set to still go ahead at this stage, despite snow and weather warnings in the North West today,” Read United’s first statement on X (formerly Twitter) at 10.14am. “Take care if you are travelling to the game — we will update you with the latest developments.”
Liverpool had also released a statement at 9.31am reading: “A safety meeting was held this morning to assess the weather and travel conditions for today’s fixture against Manchester United at Anfield.
“At this stage the match is planned to go ahead as normal and every effort is being made to get the game on. A further safety meeting will take place again at midday to assess the latest conditions.
“We will update supporters just as soon as we can. Please take extra care out there, Reds.”
A few hours later, both clubs released a second statement confirming the status of the game. United posted on their social media channels at 12pm: “Following a second safety meeting, it has been decided that today’s match between Manchester United and Liverpool will go ahead.
“There have been snowfall and weather warnings across the North West on Sunday but it has been deemed safe for fans to attend the 4.30pm kick-off. Take care if you are travelling to Merseyside today, Reds.”
It had followed Liverpool’s 11.56am statement, which read: “Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions.
“We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there.”
