Marcus Rashford could potentially be re-united with former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag if the latest whispers from across Europe ultimately align together.

Speculation over Rashford and his future at Old Trafford remains at fever pitch following that bombshell chat with journalist Henry Winter in which the England forward expressed his desire to seek out a new challenge. Whether it plays out for the 27-year-old this January remains to be seen.

Naturally, there have been countless rumours doing the rounds, while Rashford has rejected three offers from the lucrative Saudi Arabian market. It’s understood he wants to stay in Europe – particularly one of its top five divisions – to bolster his chances of an England recall.

AC Milan, Barcelona, Napoli and PSG have been mooted as potential suitors. However, there is also thought to be lingering interest from Borussia Dortmund – with the Bundesliga giants also said to be eyeing-up Ten Hag as a new manager should key figures at Signal Iduna Park opt to replace Nuri Sahin in their dugout.

Ten Hag, who was sacked by United in October, after just over two years at the helm, has been spotted at recent Dortmund games – as a guest of the club’s advisor Matthias Sammer – fuelling speculation the Dutchman could be lined-up as a possible head coach in the making there.

Reports from Sky Germany indicate that no formal approach has been made. However, with Dortmund struggling right now, suggestions that a change could be in the offing will not go away.

Rashford and Ten Hag endured a mixed working relationship at Old Trafford and beyond. Indeed, while the club’s Academy graduate plundered a career-best 30 goals during the 2022/2023 season, under Ten Hag, he was unable to replicate that form last campaign – while the then-manager also had to deal with one or two off-field concerns.

In any case, Dortmund pushing for a would-be deal involving Rashford comes with complications owing to wages and other such financial expectations. United, though, do have an open dialling line with the German side that was last utilised a year ago when Jadon Sancho re-signed for Dortmund on a half-season loan deal.
