Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has opened up on how much he loves being at the club amid the wait for news on a new contract for the Egyptian that would tie him down beyond the coming summer.

Like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, Salah is currently set to be a free agent in June. Liverpool risks losing the trio for nothing unless there is a breakthrough in talks.

Asked for his feelings on playing for Liverpool and the club in general, though, Salah was emphatic in his response. “Incredible,” he said to the club’s official website.. “I would say I enjoy every moment in this club, even when we struggle I just try to think, ‘OK, just enjoy the moment,’ because this experience maybe will never come again.

“People, they sometimes run away from bad experiences, but I don’t. Every experience I have I am like, ‘I am glad I am here in this situation now and experiencing it’, because after football, you will never experience things like that.

“Players always want a good memory but when I look at it, it doesn’t always have to be a positive memory: it’s bad or good based on how you see it, it’s your definition of ‘bad’ or ‘good’. So, I always try to say: ‘OK, it’s a new experience, I have to accept it and express the feeling around it’.”

Salah is thought to want to remain at Anfield and these latest comments would continue to back that up. But earlier this week, in the build-up to the huge game against Manchester United, the 32-year-old reiterated his comments that no progress has been made yet on a new deal.

He told Sky Sports in an interview released on Friday: “So far, yes. It’s the last six months [of my time at Liverpool]. There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress. So, we just need to wait and see.”

Salah added: “The thing in my head is that if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future? “Do you want to look back and say I was concerned or stressed about the contract?

“Or do you just want to say I had an unbelievable season? That’s what is in my head. If I ever feel distracted, I just remind myself I want to look back and say I had an unbelievable season. That’s what I want to do.”

Liverpool.com says: Given how much Salah seems to want to stay, it would seem ridiculous if an agreement wasn’t reached in the end. There has to be a compromise that sees Liverpool’s most important player remain at Anfield next season with his numbers as incredible as ever in the final third.
