Mumbai: CBI Registers Fresh Graft Case Against IRS Officer CPS Chauhan, 4 Others In Alleged Corruption Scheme

Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered another case against IRS officer CPS Chauhan, the then Joint Development Commissioner (JDC) at SEEPZ SEZ, along with his relative, two private persons and a private company.

Last month, the CBI had arrested seven public servants including Chauhan in a separate case of bribery involving allegations of collusive corruption. Later the CBI had conducted searches at official and residential premises of the accused at various locations in Mumbai and seized documents of 27 immovable properties and 3 luxury vehicles from the JDC.

The court had ordered the release of all the accused officials on personal recognizance bonds after defence lawyers argued that the arrests were illegal and that the accused had been subjected to unlawful detention.

The CBI sources said that they received a written complaint on January 1, 2025 against all the accused, alleging that between April 1, 2014 and December 18, 2024, Chauhan, while on duty committed offences which he could not satisfactorily account for.

A case has been registered by the CBI on January 1 against Chauhan on charges of public servant intentionally enriched himself illicitly during the period of his office and the other accused abetted the said offence under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Indian Penal Code.
