With the winter season nearing the end, Mumbaikars will continue to experience pleasant day weather with cool afternoons this week. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) weather report on Sunday, predicted that for the next 48 hours, minimum and maximum temperatures in Mumbai city and suburbs will be 16 to 18 degrees Celsius and 31 to 33 degrees Celsius respectively. The sky will continue to be mainly clear, with some haze in the mornings.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the maximum temperature recorded in Mumbai’s Colaba Observatory was 27.9 degrees Celsius, which was as much as 2.3 degrees Celsius below normal. The minimum temperature was 20 degrees Celsius. Over the weekend, several areas in Mumbai witnessed below 25 degrees Celsius afternoon temperatures, giving citizens a good feel of the winter season.
It was just a week before Mumbai had recorded the maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, one of the highest January temperatures. While, last week the city also recorded the minimum temperature as low as 15.2 degrees Celsius. The IMD attributed the disturbed westerly winds resulting in the sudden weather changes in Mumbai. However, the drastic drop and rise in mercury not only affected the air quality in Mumbai last week but also the health of the citizens.
As per IMD Mumbai’s weekly weather report of Santacruz observatory, from January 12 to 18, the minimum and maximum temperature will range from 16 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius. The sky will remain mainly clear with some haze in the mornings.
After suffering from Very Poor air quality for a month, Mumbai is witnessing an improvement in its Air Quality Index (AQI). With the increased breeze, the overall AQI of Mumbai continued to stay under the ‘Moderate’ category on Sunday, with some areas witnessing ‘Satisfactory’ AQI.
As per the Central Pollution Control Board’s recording, some of the areas with Moderate AQI on Sunday evening were: Chhatrapati Shivaji Intl.
