Mumbai: Mission Green Mumbai has launched an initiative to decrease the rate of senior citizens meeting with road accidents. The organisation has launched a sticker drive under the initiative to prevent senior citizens from meeting with accidents.

In multiple countries, senior citizens driving vehicles have to mandatorily paste stickers on their vehicles informing other vehicle drivers about an elderly person driving the vehicle. However, even though India does not have any such law, a social initiative in Mumbai is targeting at implementing the practice in the city.

Mission Green Mumbai has launched a sticker initiative which installs car stickers on the vehicles of senior citizens. The stickers which read “Please Be Patient Senior Citizen Driving” is being distributed by the organisation free of cost.

According to Mission Green Mumbai, the initiative has multiple benefits which includes promotion of awareness and patience among other drivers, safety of senior citizens, reduced stress for elderly people and also prevents road rage. It also encourages respect and becomes easier for recognition in parking lots.

Subhajit Mukherjee, founder of Mission Green Mumbai, said, “These stickers can alert other drivers that a senior citizen in driving, encouraging them to exercise patience and avoid aggressive driving behaviours. It fosters a culture of respect for senior citizens on the road, acknowledging their right to drive and their need for a considerate driving environment. It also minimizes pressure on the senior driver, as others are more likely to understand their driving style and avoid pressuring them to drive faster or take risks.”
