Mumbai: MRA Marg police have solved the gold heist and firing case near CSMT within 24 hours of the incident and arrested two suspects. Kiran Dhanawade, 47, and Haroon Noor Mohammad Madia, 45, are from Girgaon and Dongri, respectively. A search is on for two more accused, including the gunman.

About The Case

According to DCP Dr Praveen Munde, gold worth Rs 16.50 lakh has been recovered, with efforts underway to retrieve the remaining loot. Investigations revealed that the four accused plotted the robbery while serving time in Arthur Road Jail. After their release, they planned the heist, conducting a two-month reconnaissance of courier businessman Chirag Dhandukia’s (also known as Chirag Soni) shop in Kalbadevi.

Both arrested suspects have a criminal history: Dhanawade has four prior cases, while Madia has NDPS-related offences on his record. The robbery took place around 10.30 pm on PD’Mello Road. Chirag, who operates a courier delivery business, was transporting two bags containing gold valued at Rs 47 lakh and Rs 16.50 lakh with two associates on motorcycles.

One of them was scheduled to board the Kokankanya Express departing from CSMT at 11.05 pm to deliver the gold to Goa. Chirag and his team were tailed by two suspects on a bike, who provided real-time updates to their accomplices waiting near the station. As they approached CSMT, the assailants intercepted them and attempted to snatch the gold-filled bags. During the scuffle, one of the attackers fired four shots, injuring 16-year-old Zian Soni in the right leg near the knee. Zian is currently receiving treatment at Saifee Hospital.
