Napoli have been handed a negative verdict of Manchester United talent Alejandro Garnacho and have been recommended Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa as an alternative.

Man United are midway through a tumultuous January transfer window. Incomings are sought after the bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad yet departures are required to get the club in greater standing with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) before making signings.

To that end, no player is off limits. Garnacho was previously one of those deemed not for sale under Erik ten Hag, yet he has now fallen out of favour under new management and is reportedly Napoli’s top target this month.

However, warning the Serie A leaders off the £70m-rated 20-year-old is Walter Sabatini. A former sporting director for Lazio, Roma and Inter amongst other top Italian clubs across the past two decades, he was quoted by Calcio Mercato.

“I don’t like discussing potential replacements for the Georgian that the press has been speculating about. However, I can say that Garnacho is strong but inconsistent, without a defined role, and he doesn’t convince me much.”

It is his belief that a deal with Man United’s bitter rivals Liverpool would be the better option, adding: “Chiesa, on the other hand, could do well under Conte, as Federico is a great player.

“I am astonished that he hasn’t found space in the Premier League. He’s fast, physically resilient, and has excellent skills in attacking and sacrificing for the team.”

On that note, Anfield chiefs could put a further dent in Ineos’ grand plan of rebuilding Man United squad.

According to The i, they are ‘set to win the race’ for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez – a full-back who has persistently been linked with an Old Trafford switch in future.

Unfortunately for Man United their adversaries hold a key advantage – Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes joined from the Cherries last year, having the summer before negotiated Kerkez’s arrival to the Premier League.

Despite signing another left back already this month it is said the Bournemouth do not wish to do business this month, though a £50m deal is touted for the summer window and it is Liverpool who are better placed ahead of Man United and Man City.
