Netflix star addresses ‘pressure’ of stepping into Michelle Keegan’s shoes in new thriller

Netflix has teamed up with esteemed mystery novelist Harlan Coben once again for another thriller dropping on New Year’s Day.

It comes after the phenomenal success of Fool Me Once starring actress Michelle Keegan, which became Netflix’s most-viewed series of 2024 after gaining over 100 million watches around the world globe.

In 2025, it is Slow Horses actress Rosalind Eleazar who takes on the role of protagonist Detective Kat Donovan – and it could be a career-defining part for the star.

Speaking to Reach and other publications, Rosalind opened up about stepping into Michelle’s shoes.

Asked if the “pressure was on” as she prepared to take on the leading role in what is sure to be another hit for Netflix, the actress revealed: “Hilariously, I got this job before Fool Me Once came out.

“And then when Fool Me Once came out… I mean, it’s been watched by everyone – like, the population of America or something ridiculous. [It was] such a huge success.

“So of course, there’s a part of you that goes, ‘Oh f**, I hope I…’ But weirdly, that quickly goes away, because you’re just doing what you have to do.

“But I obviously hope that it will be as successful as Fool Me Once,” she continued. “They’re completely different stories.

“Yes, they’re both Harlan Coben, but this one feels smaller in a way, and more tender? More intense.”

Asked if she was intimidated to be working with such a star-studded cast including the likes of Lenny Henry, Rosalind confirmed: “Weirdly, there’s an excitement, I find – particularly with actors that you’ve admired.

“So when I heard I got the job, and then you start to hear all the other people like Lenny, Richard, Jimmy Nesbitt, Mark Warren… You know, for me it’s amazing when you can act opposite good actors; it makes your life a lot easier.

“So it was more that I couldn’t wait to work with them. I found that really thrilling and it happens to be that they’re also all really lovely – sometimes you can get trickier people!”

Netflix’s synopsis for the new mystery show reads: “Missing You is a limited drama series about Detective Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar), whose life is rocked when her fiancé Josh (Ashley Walters), who disappeared eleven years ago, suddenly resurfaces in strange circumstances.

“While Kat investigates the case of a missing person, Josh’s reappearance forces her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father’s (Sir Lenny Henry) murder and uncover long-buried secrets from her past.”

Missing You is available to stream on Netflix from January 1.
