Whilst Manchester City push towards the January transfer of Omar Marmoush, the striker remains in contention to start for current club Eintracht Frankfurt and rightly so for the German side it seems, as he scored again on Tuesday evening.

Pep Guardiola has identified a new forward as being critical to City’s winter transfer plans. Julian Alvarez was sold to Atletico Madrid last summer without a replacement being signed, placing further emphasis on Erling Haaland the team’s goalscorer.

As prolific as the Norwegian has been since his 2022 arrival, four Premier League goals since the start of November is a statistic has stuck out like a sore thumb over a poor two months for the team. The manager’s thinking is therefore justified.

“New players, young players, they will come,” he said on Monday. “I don’t know now, I don’t know in summer, I don’t know next season, but in the next two or three, the club has to, of course, do it. It’s a question of age.”

And at 25, Marmoush has been identified as the ideal target. The Egyptian has already netted 14 goals whilst providing eight assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances this term.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, City chiefs are pressing ahead in talks with their German counterparts over a £60m deal.

While the negotiations continue, Marmoush remains in contention to play for Frankfurt as was confirmed when named part of Dino Toppmoller’s starting line-up to face SC Freiburg on Tuesday.

It is not a total shock in as much that the forward is so important to his current team, though it could be seen as a surprise strategy given they will be hoping to get the highest fee possible for the player from any possible sale and every second spent on-field comes with the risk of injury.

But it was all smiles in the end as Marmoush assisted the first and netted the second of Frankfurt’s goals in a routine Bundesliga victory. His strike was a volleyed rebound after his initial effort had been blocked by a defender, eventually creeping over the line despite a touch from the opposition goalkeeper.
