A PADGATE CEO of a household supermarket chain has been recognised for his work in the New Year’s Honours List.
The King’s New Year’s Honours list recognises community champions across the UK.
The list is compiled following recommendations from the prime minister, senior government ministers and members of the public.
The recipients include sporting legends, acting superstars and beloved authors, but many included on the list are not household names.
The honours are often handed out to people who have made a lifelong commitment and profound contribution to the community.
Tarsem Dhaliwal is one such person on the New Year’s Honours List, and will receive an OBE.
The 61-year-old is the chief executive officer for Iceland Foods after being appointed in 2018.
Born in India, Tarsem moved to the UK in 1966 and grew up in Warrington, and was a student at Woolston comprehensive school.
He still has family in Padgate, and returned to Warrington in 2023 to open a distribution centre at Omega.
Speaking to the Warrington Guardian at the time, he said: “Being here is important to me, being brought up in Warrington. My mum and sisters still live in Warrington.”
Tarsem, who now lives in Mold in Wales, is being recognised for services to the Welsh Economy, Retail and Charity.
He is joined on the Honours List by Paralympic champions, acting superstars and campaigners from across the UK.
“Each and every day, ordinary people go out and do extraordinary things for their communities,” said Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
“They represent the very best of the UK and that core value of service which I put at the centre of everything this government does.
“The New Year Honours List celebrates more of these unsung heroes, and I thank them for their incredible contribution.”
