Padiham company to expand workforce after receiving scale-up support

A fuel management business based in Padiham is rebranding and recruiting new staff after receiving scale-up support.

LCM Environmental Services serves businesses where fuel and energy are critical.

The business has rapidly grown since 2019 and provides fuel and infrastructure services across the UK.

LCM, which employs 85 people, sought advice from Boost, Lancashire’s Business Growth Hub, in November 2023 to support its expansion.

The firm joined Boost’s Scale to Thrive programme, which is aimed at leaders who want to scale up and ‘drive forward’ innovation, investment, and internationalisation.

Managing director Paul Rava, who was appointed in July 2022, said: “We initially contacted Boost to go over our ESG strategy, which is extremely important for our business.

“However, joining the programme has given me the opportunity to talk confidentially with peers working within other fast-growing businesses in Lancashire facing a wide range of similar challenges.

“We all appear to have similar issues about recruitment and increasing brand awareness and finding the confidence to bring new senior leaders into our business.”

Boost’s advice helped Mr Rava review the senior team structure and make ‘key appointments.’

Richard Campbell, a fuel infrastructure specialist, was appointed as head of growth to ensure ‘continued and sustainable expansion.’

Since Mr Campbell’s appointment, LCM has acquired two more businesses and rebranded to reflect its ‘expanded capabilities.’

Lancashire County Councillor, Carole Haythornthwaite, lead member for economic growth and environment, said: “Boost has experts who can support companies at all stages of their business journey and LCM’s story is a real testament to that.

“It is wonderful to see that scale-up support through Boost is helping Paul focus on managing the growth and having the confidence to make further strategic decisions for the company.”

LCM now plans to expand its workforce to 95 members at the start of 2025.
