Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has urged the club hierarchy to back Ruben Amorim and not leave him out to dry like they did with Erik ten Hag.
Amorim was appointed as Ten Hag’s successor in November after United endured one of their worst starts to a Premier League season.
The Portuguese head coach has managed 12 games across all competitions, winning just five. Impressive results against Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal mean he been praised for his work so far in England.

However, Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe aren’t expected to give Amorim the funds to bolster his squad in the January transfer window despite a number of positions requiring attention, unless players can be sold. A new left-back, central midfielder and striker are all understood to be areas that are set to be bolstered in the summer.
Scholes, who has been vocal on the running of the football club in the past, has insisted Amorim must be helped by those working above him, rather than the events that played out during Ten Hag’s tenure.
“I just hope he is not left on his own again, because the way that previous managers…it felt like Ten Hag, he was always coming out and always defending the club by himself,” he said on TNT Sports.
“It felt like it was him and then possibly the owners, I don’t want that to happen with Amorim. He’s a young coach, he is a bright coach. He needs help around him and to lose Dan Ashworth so early was disappointing and I hope someone can come in whether it’s Jason Wilcox doing that…
“This lad needs support, he doesn’t need throwing out into this, what can be wild at times as we’ve seen. Just give him some help, this lad will be OK. That could be weeks he’s had with these lads now, hopefully we will start to see the benefits against teams like Southampton.”
