Police chase ends in man being injured by own vehicle while ‘attempting to get out’

A police chase ended in a crash and a man being “injured by his own vehicle” while attempting to get out of it.

Officers were called to reports of “stolen items” being loaded from a van into another vehicle just before 1pm yesterday, Tuesday.

A short pursuit followed, leading to a crash into a wall of the Go Local shop on the corner of Fearney Side and Church Street in Little Lever

A man was also “injured by his vehicle” while attempting to get out on Fearney Side.

The man was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries and was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop.

A police cordon was set up on the street throughout the afternoon, blocking it off between Church Street and Rydal Road.

Yesterday, a spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said paramedics were called to a road traffic collision at around 1.30pm.

He said they were called to the scene by police at 1.15pm.

Two police vehicles were present, as well as an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle, both of which had left the scene by 2.15pm.

A Go Local staff member said another car was involved in the crash, although it was not clear whether the other car was stationary.

He added that the wall of the shop had been damaged.

A Ford Transit pick up could be seen inside the cordon. It appeared to be crashed into the back of a Vauxhall Astra.

The Transit was missing a wing mirror and a wing mirror could be seen on the floor near the cordon.
