COASTGUARD rescue teams from Whitehaven and Maryport have been deployed after receiving reports of small dogs and children ‘stuck in mud’ at a harbour.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team were mobilised at around 6:44pm on Thursday, January 16 after receiving reports that small dogs and ‘potentially children’ were stuck in mud at Maryport Harbour.
Upon their arrival at the harbour it was confirmed that no children were in danger but two small dogs had fallen into the mud and become stuck.
The team proceeded to use an inflated three-man sled to rescue the dogs who were reunited with their owners shortly afterwards.
Writing on social media, Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “The team alongside Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team were paged to attend a call of small dogs and potentially children stuck in the mud in Maryport harbour.
“Team personnel were shortly on scene and quickly established that no persons were stuck in the mud, however it was confirmed the two small dogs had fallen off the wall and were stuck.
“Our colleagues at Maryport Rescue had committed to the rescue of the dogs so our officers supported them in their efforts and both dogs were successfully recovered unharmed.”
