Manchester United are closing in on confirming the first signing of Ruben Amorim’s reign at the club. The Portuguese arrived in November and steadied the ship left by Erik ten Hag.

Left-back Diego Leon is close to becoming the first signing under Amorim and their first of the January transfer window. Leon won’t officially become a Red Devil until he turns 18 in April.

Last week, he was spotted on his way to England to undergo his medical and put the finishing touches to his move to Old Trafford. Now, reports have claimed Leon has passed his medical tests to put the deal into its final stages.

United look set to win the race for Leon after many of Europe’s top clubs registered an interest in him. Since making his first-team debut for Cerro Porteno, the Paraguayan has reportedly been on Arsenal and Manchester City’s radar.

Daniel Maciel, a Paraguayan journalist, revealed how Leon has passed his medical at United on Monday. The 17-year-old will reportedly leave United for a deal around £6million, including add-ons.

It is expected that Leon will re-join his current club on loan before returning to England in the summer. Earlier this month, he was named in the Paraguay squad for the South American Under-20 Championship that is due to take place from January 23 to February 16.

Upon departing South America for England last week, Leon confirmed he would be back in Paraguay on Monday. He also revealed how he has started learning the English language ahead of his move.
