Sainsbury’s shopper fumes at price of Cadbury Mini Eggs as they say ‘fix it’

A shopper has taken to social media to hit back at Sainsbury’s and Cadbury for the steep rise in the price of Mini Eggs.

JUDVH, a British musician, expressed his anger regarding the current cost of the chocolates in a TikTok video. He highlighted that a 270g bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs now costs a staggering £4.85 at the shop.

As Easter approaches and chocolate treats hit the shelves once more, the beloved Mini Eggs have returned with a significantly higher price tag compared to last year – much to the disdain of consumers. In his TikTok clip, JUDVH fumed: “Cadbury’s and or Sainsbury’s you ill mannered troglodytes £4.85 for a 270g of Mini Eggs.

“Once upon a time these were Lindt prices and even they’ve only just about gone up to £6. Maximum these should be £1 to the 100 grams.

“Your inflation does not add up. To add insult to the injury you’ve labelled this a family pack, a family pack of rats.”

“Whose family are you feeding with 270g of Mini Eggs? It would be wise of you to heed these warnings, Sainsbury’s. Your little profit margin is not worth this wrath, fix it.”

The viral TikTok video has captured substantial attention online. One user commented: “They’re in Tesco for £1.65 on clubcard, that’s the only way I’m buying them.”

A second added: “Something I used to buy for £1 during the pandemic?? Come off itttt.”

Another user expressed their frustration, saying: “I’m sickened every time we do a shop!! Everything is getting smaller and smaller, some things don’t taste the same but the prices are just getting higher and higher.”

A fourth shopper commented: “And the packet says one portion is 8 eggs. 8! It’s all an absolute catastrophe.”

Meanwhile, another person was in disbelief: “Family pack!?!? I could eat that in 2 minutes…” Further remarks included: “It’s cheaper to buy the M&S chocolate mini eggs than it is to buy the smallest bag of Cadbury mini eggs in Asda!”, “this is robbery” and “it’s so disrespectful.”

The price hike of Cadbury chocolate eggs has been noted across several stores. Last year, a 110g bar of Mini Eggs cost £1.25 at Tesco and Morrisons, but this year the price has jumped to £2 in both supermarkets, although Tesco Clubcard holders can purchase it for a slightly reduced price of £1.75.

According to Wales Online, the price of a 90g bag of Mini Eggs was previously £1.15, but now Sainsbury’s is charging £1.85 for a smaller 80g bag, effectively doubling the price while reducing the quantity. Perhaps most astonishing is Waitrose’s pricing of a 1kg bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs at £15.

Cadbury and Sainsbury’s have been contacted for comment.
