Secondary school uses mini-bus to ferry pupils to school during cold-snap

A school has put on a mini-bus to ferry pupils to class if they are having difficulty getting in due to the cold snap – and at least one school closed today due to freezing temperatures.

Other Bolton schools have delayed their opening times as the cold snap continues to bite.

Rivington and Blackrod High School announced last night it would be arranging a minibus this morning to help pupils make it to school.

Eatock Primary School in Westhoughton is shut today, according to the Bolton Council school closures page.

In a statement Rivington and Blackrod High School said: “Due to the adverse weather this week, school will be running a minibus service in the morning for students struggling to get into school. Please contact the relevant pastoral team to arrange.”

The Met has not put a weather warning in place today but temperatures have been very low this week, today they are below zero again.

Bolton has seen its fair share of ice and snow this week.

A number of schools opened later or closed their doors on Monday.

Westhoughton High School announced last night on social media that they would be opening at 9.30am today.

In a statement the school said yesterday: “Freezing temperatures made travel difficult this morning, which was not expected.

“A delayed start tomorrow allows our learners and their parents the ability to plan.

“As always, for those who arrive early on public transport, the canteens will be open.”

It added: “We will return to normal ways of working and full school uniform from Monday.”

There will not be as many closures as there was on Monday, when the Met Office issued a weather warning for sleet and snow.

Bolton saw two days of snow on Sunday and Monday, causing disruption and school closures.

There were reports of buses stuck and lanes of the motorway being closed.
