An innovative man discovered a unique method to save money on his grocery shopping.
Ejay Hernandez, an American TikTok creator, shared how he uses ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, to compile a grocery list tailored to a specific store and budget.
He requested a shopping list that would provide enough food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for two weeks. In a video on TikTok, Ejay encouraged others to use the AI tool for their grocery shopping, although reactions were mixed.

Speaking in the video, he said: “Okay, I’m going to hold your hand when I say this. You need to use ChatGPT for your grocery list. It is a lifesaver.”
As an example, he asked ChatGPT to create a grocery list with a $70 (£56) budget for two weeks. He added: “You can also adjust it to be like but you know I want this meal for like whatever.
“You could also say I want it to be protein heavy. I want it to have not a lot of carbs. I want there to be a lot of fibre involved.”
Ejay explained the chatbot will provide specific product recommendations and can even detail the grams of protein each meal contains. It also offers substitution options.
The Los Angeles-based TikTok influencer exuded enthusiasm about the budgeting tool, remarking: “It is so great with substitutions because it’s like if you don’t want a certain thing in your meal you say ‘I don’t want that, can you change it to this instead?’
“It’ll find you another item that the store has and it will show you the price and it will adjust it based on the budget and I will say it is pretty accurate, sometimes it is a little bit over but not by much I’d say like literally one or two dollars, it is not crazy, and you can also ask if it can give you some leeway for snacks or chips or little comfort foods too and it just saves my life and I think everybody should start doing that.”
The content creator, Ejay, hailed the impact of this hack on his life and finances in his viral TikTok video’s caption: “This has saved my life and my wallet, let me save yours!” His clip amassed a staggering 9.6million views, alongside 1.3million likes and 10,000 comments.
One TikTok enthusiast gushed: “I’ve been using this for months and had it curate recipes and even literally write out the recipes for me. So easy and worth it.”
Another shared: “I use ChatGPT for therapy, all my business ideas, grocery shopping, major life decisions, it’s pretty much a domestic partnership.”
A third person detailed: “I used ChatGPT to do meal plans! ‘Make me a no cook meal plan for 4 weeks for 1,600 calories a day and include breakfast, lunch and dinner’. It was amazing! You can do so many things with it. Further endorsing the tool, a fourth user declared that ChatGPT is evolving into their “personal assistant”.
However, concerns have been raised by some TikTok users over the energy consumption required to operate ChatGPT. One user implored: “Please look into how much resources are used per AI enquiry. We literally cannot produce the energy and the water consumption is going to break us.”
Others made claims such as: “One ChatGPT is equivalent to using a desk lamp for 2 hours,” and urged: “Make sure no one is using ChatGPT for every little thing! This is a great idea but please make your searches meaningful as each one uses a bottle’s worth of water.”
