The suspects were then forced to the ground and apprehended. Two men, aged 55 and 37, and one woman, aged 54, were all arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and remain in custody to be questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department.

The vehicle was later seized for forensic analysis and examination, with investigations currently ongoing.

Superintendent Paul Walker, of GMP’s Specialist Operations, said: “The work done by our Specialist Operations branch is invaluable and shows the importance of specialist teams using their skills to work together.

“The outcome could have been very different but because of the quick-thinking actions of the officers no one was injured. The suspects all remain in custody and are currently waiting to be interviewed by detectives in Bury.

“Capabilities from Specialist Operations teams are used to fight and prevent crime in communities across Greater Manchester day and night and in the early hours of this morning, other officers in the branch from the Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit were out and making burglary arrests in South Manchester after a vehicle was reported stolen, showing the dedication and commitment from officers in the unit to put a stop to those who think it is acceptable to use our roads dangerously.”
